Gideon Cauton
Gideon Elfred A, Cauton or Gids serves as the Specialist of Investigations and Law Enforcement Development in International Justice Mission (IJM), Asia Pacific. He provides subject matter expertise in investigations and law enforcement development to address modern slavery. He supports multi-disciplinary teams in project offices in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines who partner with their government to strengthen the public justice system response to modern slavery, particularly forced labor, labor trafficking, and sexual exploitation of children. Gids investigated major crimes as an investigation agent of the National Bureau of Investigation in the Philippines before he transitioned to IJM. His work in the Philippines contributed to the decrease in the prevalence of commercial sexual exploitation of children in Cebu, Pampanga, and Metro Manila. With IJM, he has trained law enforcement officers from member states of ASEAN, ASEANAPOL, and INTERPOL supporting cross-border collaboration in combating modern slavery. He actively advocates for a more equitable and standardized victim identification procedure as a way for victims of human trafficking, especially migrant workers, to access government services in their destination countries; and for the application of the non-punishment principle. Currently based in Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental, Philippines, Gids enjoys traveling with his wife, Virgie.
