Lan is the vice dean at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University.

She is also project coordinator for the Viet Nam Association School of Social work to support social work educators and train institutions for capacity strengthening.

Since the late 1990s, Lan has been actively involved in the development of the field of social work in Viet Nam and is among the pioneers to create change through supporting access to health and social services for vulnerable and disadvantaged populations, such as children in special circumstances, persons with disabilities, HIV/AIDs patients and marginalized groups.
